A Stranger Project - I've made the leap into one following the lead of Hazel @quietpurplehaze. I am hoping that this project will allow me to garner more courage about my art and the ability to share with others what I have found by being involved with a 365 photography project. This qualifies for a pmae_ Push My Artistic Envelope.
While I was climbing the hill in Sedona to set up and try to capture the full moon with Cathedral Rock, I met Cynthia. She was giving away free poems. She shared with me a few classics such as 'Casey at the Bat' by Ernest Thayer and then introduced me to Mary Oliver's work. Here is a link ( http://peacefulrivers.homestead.com/maryoliver.html ).
Cynthia is a free spirit who is currently in Sedona. A former teacher who shares poetry, travels and works on organic farms now and then. The chance encounter with her was such a gift.
@byrdlip Thank you a great deal. This is going to be an interesting project.
@kali66 I can talk to others but asking them to let me take their picture is not in my 'playbook'. It will be good for me but I will need down time. She (Cynthia) is such a warm soul. I am now on the hunt for some poetry.
Great start to your project. I understand your hesitation. I have yet to ask someone if I can take a picture. Good for you. You can conquer your fears.
congrats joy! i think this counts at least as a quadruple pmae, to get started with a strangers project - well done :) i want to dare to do it myself but haven't summoned the courage yet. it seems like cynthia was the perfect start, and you've created a lovely gentle image of her free spirit. and spookily i was recently given a collection of mary oliver's poems, which i have been much enjoying, having never heard of her before :)
@golftragic I have wanted to join in and it feels good to step out of my zone. There are some very fine people in this world.
@quietpurplehaze Very grateful. The best part of doing this is making people smile. We live in a world that is such desperate need of more smiles.
@ingajohansson The rock formations in Sedona are truly amazing. There are so many hikes and trails. I've only explored a few, so far.
@henrir I have grown while doing this 365 project itself. I am more confident in lots of different ways. I don't know how long the 100 shots will take but I guess that doesn't really matter- its doing it.
@pistache Thank you so very kindly for the fav. She first shared "The Journey" and it truly resonated with me. I also liked her confidence in herself. She is wonderfully knowledgeable without seeming pretentious. Taking people shots isn't really my strong suit but I hope to learn some things along the way.
@jernst1779 I admit to having a limited poetry exposure but went to the library today and there are so many volumes of Ms. Oliver's work. I believe that Cynthia and I intersected to help spark more poetry in my life.
@eudora Thank you, she was such a warm and open soul. I am really looking forward to meeting others.
I must say I could count on the fingers of one hand the people in my project who HAVE NOT smiled for their photo! It’s also great that folk who do not like their photo taken are then pleased with their portrait.
One of the most valuable gifts is the encounter with other people. It can be something wondrously beautiful. It feels good if you can feel it that way.
Ah, yesterday's photo in the daylight. Makes me like the moon shot even more.
