Wrens Call Dibs for Next Spring by jyokota

Wrens Call Dibs for Next Spring

After the wren family vacated their home with their babies (sadly, I didn't see them leaving although I photographed the parents often) the house stood empty for months. Then one day, I noticed feathers placed just inside, as if some bird was laying claim to this house for next spring already. I do have about 10 other bird houses but this is the preferred one for some reason. It's curious because it's also the closest to my back door, only about two feet away.

We love watching the birds at our house too. Someone is feathering his nest!

Fabulous close up of these lovely textures. It is a beautiful house, if I were a bird i would move in too ;-)

That's so interesting that they would appear to have a way of communicating ownership to other would-be residents. You're teaching us a lot about bird behavior!

Fascinating to read, I have no idea. There are some robins who chose to nest in the laurel hedge belonging to my neighbour, but in the part that is literally around 2 feet from my back door too. Strange that they choose to be so close to people.

May be close to your house, but it sure looks like a perfectly snug spot for a bird family!

Love the wispy white feathers.

How very cool to find their nest! I've never seen a nest in a tree like this. Here, the nests are made mostly of twigs and such and placed on branches in trees.

A look into the lives of our feathery friends. Wren's are always so interesting to watch get into very small places.
