Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

A most important among the Tenmangu shrines in Japan, it is dedicated to the spirit of a scholar, Sugawara Michizane, who began writing poetry by age 11. He was exiled from the capitol city of Kyoto and lived out his life in Dazaifu, and this shrine is built at his gravesite.
