I live at the end of a very dark path, coming off of the neighborhood street. There are no street lights, so my landlady puts out a lantern for me every night. As I turn off of the street, I always feel like the lantern is greeting me. Tonight, I had a very quiet (too quiet?) evening in my flat above hers, and she apparently didn't realize I had been home all afternoon so she put out the lantern as usual.
