Cristo Redentor

Tilt-Shift! A friendly photographer offered to let me try his tilt-shift lens and showed me how it worked. Magic, that's how! Suddenly, Jesus was standing straight and the people in the foreground were no longer strangely angled.

Built in 1931, 30 meters (98 ft) tall plus 8 meter base, arm span 28 meters wide. Stands on top of Corcovado mountain in Tijuca Forest, and looks out over the city of Rio. If you look closely, you can see the people posing for their arm-stretched photos.

I've never seen this iconic sculpture with people! This is such an original perspective!

Fascinating effect. We were in Rio a few years ago and I loved it - but Christ was under scaffolding at the time so not so great for photos.
