I'm detouring back to our Italian holiday for a couple more days. I want to show you a few of my favourite shots from Rome. We spent 4 nights and 3 full days exploring this beautiful city. This was taken the first night we arrived. The horse sculpture was HUGE!
Today is my 24th wedding anniversary. I had a lovely lunch out with my hubby and then put him on a plane to go back to work. Thanks for all your comments, fav's, Bday wishes for me & my mom as well as anniversary wishes. June is a very busy month for my family!
I like the flags flying up there on the castle! Great sky to have here for the silhouettes! Glad you had a lunch out for your anniversary before you were left alone. And a happy birthday!
Spectacular! Fav! I'll be there with my daughter in August. I shared your site with her so she can see all of the fabulous photos from your trip. I'm trying to decide if I should bring my SLR -- I can't imagine taking a trip like this without it, but I'm wary. Any thoughts?
@yellowdog I packed my D800 everywhere! I did bring a bunch of lens but used my 24-70mm 95% of the time. I was so worried about theft before I left but I felt totally safe. I have a side strap and held it in my hand a good portion of the time. I can't imagine not having it. I never use a camera bag except to get the stuff to our destination. Then I had it around my neck the whole time. If we were eating, I'd leave it on the table but I'd either hold the strap or have it very close. Take it!! You'll regret it if you don't. Another trip. Make sure you have pre bought tickets for the big attractions... colosseum and vatican museum.
@yellowdog Also, get up early the day you do the Vatican. We were there just before 8am and walked to the top of the dome with maybe a 3 minute wait through security. The walk down ends inside the church. We explored there next and then did the Vatican Museum (with a set time). You have to walk about 10 minutes to get to the entrance after you leave the church. The lines for those two places were HUGE by the time we left the area at 11:00. There's no way I would have stayed if we didn't have our tickets ahead. Even with Colosseum tickets still go about an hour early. There's a security line everyone has to go through (those with and without tickets are mixed together). Our tickets said to arrive 15 mins early but luckily we were there about 45 minutes ahead or else I would have been having a panic attack.
@kwind bellissimo! Thank you for sharing!! I love the door knockers and the feet and the signs and the scenery and...... Definitely bringing the Nikon!
Happy anniversary! Mine is on Saturday and I'm looking forward to it. This is a gorgeous shot of rome, I think I might have been there at the same time as you this year. I must get back to processing those shots!
Love the silhouettes, composition, tones & lighting. In short, a fav! I'm trying to figure out if this is this is the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. I have an old photo at a different angle and couldn't tell.
Wonderful shot.....you got the silhouette of the immense sculpture with just the right fiery background!! June sounds like such a crazy busy month for you....but also incredibly fun!! So glad you had the opportunity to celebrate all of these special occasions with hubby! Congratulations on your anniversary! You guys are an amazing couple!
