Thank you for your comments and favs on yesterday's wooden reindeer. The one I posted was probably 2.5 feet tall to the tip of its antlers. Someone suggested I show you the rest of the herd. Well, here they are! Not the best of photos but I got some bad news about my camera today so I've got to limit my shots for a while. When I was shooting yesterday I noticed that every 8-10 shoots would have a black line through the bottom portion of the image. I took it to the camera store today and the guy figures there's something wrong with the mechanics of either my mirror or shutter. Of course it's not under warranty and needs to be sent across the country to the Nikon store and I won't have it back for probably 4 weeks!! This did NOT make me happy as I have big photo plans for the holidays. So Im keeping it for now and going to try to use it less so I can get through the season with my family and then I'll send it in for repair in the new year. I can't imagine being without it for so long.
The Herd look fantastic... Oh no.. no camera would be like have your hand chopped off.. I upgraded my camera a couple of years ago and I kept the old one so good to have a spare... perhaps you could get a new one for xmas and this one could be repaired for you #2 camera... whoops did I say that...
i can deal with pets like this, at least i don't have to smell them. :-) sorry to hear about your camera. time for a new one or a new second hand. or maybe santa's reading all this conversation and he might pass by henry's before the big day! cheers!
Christmas is here -- what a lovely herd ( and a talented craftsman husband you have ! Love the scene it makes and I can virtually hear the sleigh bells ringing !! So sorry to hear about the camera , how inconvenient at this time before Christmas -- I hope it will limp the way through the month for you ! :)
Oh brother! We know the feeling! Things always happen on weekends or during the Holidays.. No one gets sick and needs to see a doctor except on Friday nights with no doctor available till Monday. I had a camera crash on me just before Christmas several years ago..... and had to go across country to the Canon Factory for fix! (Fortunately, I had a lesser second camera!) However, a refrigerator died on Christmas Day one year, our kitchen sink plugged up on New Year's Day another year -- with me expecting a baby any minute.
Your husband is very talented at putting up this herd of wooden reindeers. Sorry to hear about your camera, especially at this time of year. Fingers crossed it will survive the holidays.
sorry for your camera.
one simple thing: did you try to use a new card?
i'm not sure but I think it happened to me a long time ago, can't remember but it seems familiar.
Sometimes we don't think about the easiest...
@parisouailleurs I switched out lenses but not memory cards. The camera guy thinks the mirror isn't getting out of the way quick enough and is casting a shadow on the image. I was in burst mode so he's suggested shooting in single. Hopefully that helps. My sister and her two kids are coming frim Australia for Christmas and we have tons of activities planned - the timing couldn't be worse. I have my old D90 I can use if necessary but it's not nearly as good.
Any chance you might be able to hire a camera while yours is under repair, you might have to say you are thinking of upgrading, which you are (thinking) and its only a little white lie. Sort of thing I would do.
How miserable to be without the camera for that long - do hope it holds out for the holidays. Love the reindeer your husband has made - the herd is adorable.
Handsome family of reindeer you've got hanging out on your porch. Lucky the family and friends who get these as presents. (I'm feeling miserable for you and your ailing camera.)
not fun having camera problems. I am travelling in NZ currently and my camera is playing up intermittently, resetting my settings...and every now and then a white photo....or two...then later on a black one. Not happy..either me or my camera.
Love the reindeers!
So sorry your camera's not working properly, hopefully you'll manage with it while your family are visiting. These things never happen at a good time!
They're all so full of creativity and personality! I'm so sorry about your camera- but even with what you call your "lesser" camera you will get excellent pictures- it's the photographer not the camera that makes a picture great.
Love the sculptures, but so sorry about your camera! I sent mine to this place (in the USA) when it was acting up - they were pretty quick - less than 2 weeks: Nikon Authorized Service Authorized Photo Service, Inc. 8125 River Drive, Suite 100 Morton Grove, IL 60053 USA

The herd looks great. your hubby is so talented. I can imagine how you feel about being without your camera. lets keep our fingers crossed it makes it over your holidays. I had an incident with my camera the day I took the pictures of the Christmas tree at the Eaton Centre. I was carrying a plastic water bottle and a few other items in a bag and at one time, I put my camera on top of it. it's a Canon P&S. by moving around it went to the bottom of the bag and my water bottle must have leaked a bit. the camera got soaked. stupid me, when I took it out, I tried to take a picture. well it didn't work. so my daughter advised me to take out the sim card and battery. we tried to dry up that compartment.. but the camera is finished. the lens only comes out a little bit and it won't go back in. when I later google the damage, I realized it can't be repaired. the sim card is indestructible they say. yes, it's true. at least I didn't loose any of the pictures I took. when going to a busy mall, I feel safer with my small pocket size Canon. I leave my Nikon at home.
