Every year our city as a carving contest called Transformations by the Sea. Men and women use chainsaws and other power and hand tools to make elaborate sculptures out of cedar logs. This was my favourite from this year. It's called the BFG - Big Friendly Giant from the novel and recent movie. My husband took this photo of me standing beside it. I'm 5'3" tall and he's much taller than me!! It's 15 feet tall and was made out of an 8 foot tall piece of cedar. He put two pieces together. Here's the carver's FB page if you want to see more... https://www.facebook.com/sawvalley/?hc_location=ufi
Your photo locations near your home always seem so remote, I never think of you as living in a city! How wonderful to had art created along the beach...and on no small scale either!
That is some talented carver - great idea standing by it to show off his size. Just leaves me speechless at how they can turn a log into something this intricate.
@maggiemae It's a little person in his palm. The carvings are either bought by individuals or moved and displayed around our city. They stay in this location for a few months before they go to their permanent homes.
Our city isn`t bigger but we call it a city trough.
