Another of my geocaching trips and we look down on the village of Painswick, known as the "Queen of the Cotswolds. The Painswick valley is another of the 5 valleys series that spreads out from Stroud.
New Street, constructed around 1428 when the wool and cloth trade was flourishing, contains the oldest building in England that holds a Post Office, this is Painswick's only example of exposed timber framing.
There are rare 17th century spectacle stocks near the court house. 14th century houses in Bisley Street include two original Donkey doors, Wide enough for panniered donkeys who carried the wool from the numerous mills along the local valleys.
You can just make out the church spire, and if visiting you will note 99 beautiful cut yew trees, they have never managed to get the 100th to grow without one of them to die still leaving 99 yew trees. It's a wonderful old village to visit or Goggle to look up some pictures.
