The Littlest of Churches. by ladymagpie

The Littlest of Churches.

If you want a very quiet wedding what better place to choose than Quarry Church near Dursley in Gloucestershire. I would imagine that if 12 turned up you would have a full congregation. Even the graveyard was small but in proportion to the building itself. Church built in 1852.

Another little geocaching trip and a search near to this very tiny church, I just could resist capturing it for my album.

Beautiful shot of a quaint little place of worship. I love the stones in the building and fence and the arched windows. The light tan of the bricks around the windows and the corners of the building grabbed my attention and made the red of the other bricks in the structure really stand out. Wish I could see the inside (hint, hint). I love old churches. They are one of the things I look for when I am on a trip. Thanks.

@connie865 Thanks Connie, got the hint and I must admit I didn't look inside. Feel another little trip out.

Lovely composition. Lots of interest here, with the stones, windows, fence and weathered roof. That is a tiny cemetery! Only 5 stones?

@genealogygenie Thanks Kim, there is a little bit more cemetery on the right. So it was first come first buried.

A beautiful capture. Glad to see it has not gone the way of many other small churches and been converted to a house.

@thresheg Thanks Graham, understood it's still in use today.

quaint Church wonder if its a chapel of ease ? a church other than the parish church but within the parish. We have one in Hatfield, built for people who could not travel so far as the Parish church

@philcameron59 Hi Phil, It's down as The Quarry United Reform Church, also now a Congregational Church. Does that help.
