Taking Steps by ladymagpie

Taking Steps

I've been out geocaching today, short walk in the same place as yesterdays photograph, then another walk round a very old churchyard, little foot bridges and across meadows. It was beautiful but I'm definitely very unfit, as I was glad to get back to my car and sit down.

Whilst in the churchyard I spotted these steps leading up to a very small door in the base of the church tower. The door was only about 5 foot high so even I would have to bend down, the only problem is that I don't think I could squeeze through the very narrow opening without breathing in at least twice.

I would image it was originally the entrance for the bell ringers with the doorway and steps dating from the 13th century, even the steps are worn down over the years. View with the dark surround if you can.

Thank you for all your comments and FAV's for the old canal scene.
This image proves it is in the details....super shot and a fav!

Interesting sweet little door Heather, the people were dwarfs in those days you can tell by the height of ceilings & brass beds!

Always a fascinating feature in your country - how small doorways and ceilings are! Luckily I'm vertically challenges so can fit :)

Love it, lots of history here. People were much shorter back in the 'olden days' weren't they. They didn't think ahead when they built this doorway.
