Church between the Trees by ladymagpie

Church between the Trees

I went back to the same church yesterday as the one with the little doorway the other day. I was doing another geocache nearby and decided to take another full picture of the church.

I lovely these Cotswold Stone churches and this one dates from the 13th century, the history it could tell. Behind the churchyard runs a small river with a footbridge into a meadow where Cromwell's army (1649 - 1662) practiced their archery skills whilst stationed at the nearby garrison at the local Court. There are also grooves on the corner stones of the church, said to date from the same period (from archers rubbing the fetches to sharpen them). So more history for you to work out.

Thank you for your comments and FAV's recently.

These old churches are beautiful. We spent a holiday in the Cotswolds long ago and visited many churches.

Fabulous old church. I do miss old things sometimes, we don't have anything so old in Australia.

I wonder if those archers ever ever thought someone would write about them - how many years later - 800 years! Lovely old church still looks strong!
