Let's Call a Spade a Spade. by ladymagpie

Let's Call a Spade a Spade.

As I was walking about in the countryside I noticed this lone spade leaning against a tree. It was just inside someone's long drive going down to a big house, no gardening going on and seems to have been forgotten.

It reminded me of the phrase, "Let's call a spade a spade", often used during a disagreement. The meaning of this phase being, to speak plainly and not to beat about the bush, call it exactly like it is.

I've just realised I've used another phase in my description, "Not to beat about the bush", must look out the originals of that one.

Thank you for all your comments and view this with the dark surround.
Don't beat around the bush - get to the point! lol

Nicely composed. That's where my spade would be because I do not like gardening!.

Nice editing. I love your English phrases; I do understand what they mean, but the words we use Dutch for the same expression are totally different.

More a shovel than a spade but they probably have forgotten where they left it! Tie a yellow ribbon round the old steel shovel!

Well spotted and captured. Your caption would make it a great entry for the six word story challenge.
