To most of you this is just a normal street scene, but to me this is a big memory of my early childhood. It was in 1951 my family moved into a new home, just turn left for about 50 yards. The shop complex in front, the flats on the right and the church on the left weren't built then.
In fact this road was just a muddy footpath over two stiles and across a field, a home to a very large horse. The path led to the village and also my primary school and was used every day. My Mother hated crossing the field as she thought the horse was waiting for her and often chased her across it.
When all these buildings were built we used to use the foundation trenches as our playground, fighting wars or cowboys and Indians, Health and Safety would have nightmares today with possibilities of them caving in and burying us alive.
The right hand shop used to be Joe's the Butchers where I worked on Saturday as a young teenager making sausages and minced beef. So on this day 67 years later I was looking for a geocache here, but it's so nice to return where I had such a happy childhood.
Just the same as where I used to live until I was twelve Heather. Our was last house at end of cul de sac & then fields, the main line railway beyond, changed beyond recognition now....houses, houses, houses! We used to play on the building sites too, I can still remember that smell of sand, wood & plaster!
Nice memories Heather. I spent my childhood in the countryside; there was a canal in front of our house where we could swim in summer, skate in winter; where my father used to take his fishing rod after he came home from work.
