Early posting today as my football club Forest Green Rovers are playing away in Scunthorpe. They have gone tup north to see all the local supporters with flat caps and whippets, hopefully returning with all 3 points. (I love all supporters really).
Today we have an old sluice gate, but a special one that has been refurbished and made to look pretty to match the area. This is just beside the canal and the roundhouse and was used to reduce the water in the canal and also to drain a section if it needed repairs. The canal runs just behind this sluice gate and in front of those bushes you can see in the capture.
The lengthman could open the gate and the water runs out to the river Frome and also the mill pond lower down and behind me where I'm standing, as seen in early pictures.
I like the way it has been encircled by a low Cotswold stone wall and has these berry bushes within it. If you look closely you can just make out the gearwheel that raises and lowers the gate.
It time for me to put my football scarf on, sit in front of my PC and get ready to feed the commentators with some interesting fact and figures, oh I do love my spreadsheets.
I love it that you are so passionate about what you are doing. I admire you. Not only the football part, but also the photography.
This photo is so great. I noticed the wheel amidst those bushes and stones. Very nice shot.
Finger crossed for a Rovers win, I hope you’re enjoying the game.
Nicely composed shot with the wheel poking through, the wall and berries are great... so green.

The prettiest sluice gates I’ve ever seen!
