I didn't know which was France's biggest business - Airbus Industries, Total, Axa, Orange, Sanofi ? Looked it up and it turned out to be, by quite a considerable margin, LVMH - Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. Seems that champagne, cognac and ladies' expensive handbags is where the money is.
@jack4john Yes, and now they produce 40% of all cognac. And the oldest distillery in Ireland, Bushmills, is owned by Mexicans, and Anglo-Irish Diageo have just bought George Clooney's tequila company, and Pernod Ricard of France own all the Irish whiskey production that Diageo and the Mexicans don't have. Globalisation is truly crazy, and it all started with the Wild Geese in 1691!
