"Shut Out Their Love"

This is part of the remains of a WW2 gun battery at Port Vendres, blown up by the German army as it retreated in 1944. A German artist, a long time resident of the port, has inscribed these poems by Rose Auslander, a German-speaking Jewish poet who survived the war. This poem is called "Shut Out Their Love":

" They came
with guns and jagged banners
shot down the moon and all the stars
and shut out their light
and shut out their love

That day we buried the sun
And there was eternal night "

Quite fascinating to these these ww2 relics and the poem is very moving. A perfect thing to do so people can stop and reflect. I like the b&w treatment, it really fits the mood of the shot.

Brings back memories of Dads WW2 stories. Ones he was reluctant to tell.
