This is just one of the mosaic murals inside the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Aust. War Memorial in Canberra. It is made up of thousands of tiny tiles (each being approx 1cm x 1cm). To stand in that tomb and look up at these amazing murals sends chills down your spine....and I think that having been at the actual grave of where this unknown soldier was taken from at the Adelaide Cemetery in Villers Bretonneux, who was then re interred into this tomb at the War Memorial, just made more of a connection with me, and gave me even more goosebumps & chills. These murals and the stain glassed windows in the tomb are simply beautiful....and the words on the actual grave of the unknown solder, were very moving.....
They are gorgeous murals, I agree. I love visiting the war memorial. We will be in Canberra at the end of January too. Always try and make the closing ceremony.
I don't know if it is the tiles or the lighting, but the mural seems to have a lot of depth to it. This is a very different war memorial to those I have seen in Europe.
