The Lodberries

The Lodberries in Lerwick are quite a sight but you get used to them when you see them day after day. The Queen's Hotel is just out of shot and it would seem to be in a poor state of repair and with it being on the market, as are at least half of Shetland's Hotels, I fear for its future.
cool shot fav

@busylady Hi Judith - this is from Scots Dictionary - The Lodberrie, Lerwick, which receives a grant for stonework repairs, is a group of buildings comprising the shop, house, warehouse and fish-drying loft of a merchant of the eighteenth century. Buildings of this type were a notable feature of Lerwick, but there are now only two examples left.
If you saw one up close it would make much more sense!

Love this picture See the Viking boat in the water!! Are most of the residents descendants of the Vikings, or do they just come for visits??

@777margo There are many Shetland people who can trace their roots back to the Vikings. There has also been DNA surveys in Orkney and Shetland which confirm this to be the case.
