We stopped in Old San Juan for a glass of wine one afternoon and Puerto Rican artist Larry Gonzales was displaying lovely, two-sided pendants for sale. He calls them "Wearable Visuals", he takes photos of San Juan's urban and rural landscapes and adds abstract details. He mounts them in aluminum frames and encases them in resin. Finally, local seeds are drilled and mounted on hand shaped aluminum wire and strung on leather lariats. His motivation is to create tokens of beauty in the form of collectible wearable art. I really enjoyed talking to him, his pendants are beautiful. I encouraged him to consider changing the word "visuals" to "art"!
Such beautiful pendants! It must be quite special wearing them since the artist himself gave you the background information on how and why he creates these special pendants. :-)
@alijchapman@bkbinthecity@gaylewood@beryl@nicolecampbell Thus is one pendant, it's that indigo purple on one side and shades of red on the other, that makes it twice as nice! Thank you so much for your comments. I appreciate it!
@annied@gigiflower He very proudly stated that he only uses his iPhone to take photos, he had some amazing pendants, I liked that he was doing one thing well instead of trying to make earrings and bracelets, etc.
The name he has given to his pendants reminds me of the speaker at our photo club last night. Basically he was talking about the components of composition but instead he called it "Cognitive Photography". It sounds rather complicated but all it really means is to think about the shot before you take it! Lovely pendant- I take it that it came home with you.
@gigiflower He was creative and he never quit smiling. I think because I was taking him so seriously. @henrir Thank you, I've already worn it several times. @Weezilou Thank you, if nothing else, I gave him something to think about! @olivetreeann I think the marketing advice "keep it simple" really applies at so many levels. In my eyes simplicity can be quite elegant, you can over-think anything! Oh yes, this pendant came home with me!
