Our dear friend Dennis has been a painter all his life. His forte was women, but he painted horses beautifully, too. He was struck with ALS a few years ago and recently had to give up painting. He is having an estate sale this weekend and I couldn’t help but notice that his fireplace mantle is still artfully put together. This is just one of his many beautiful paintings, we are all heartbroken to see him go through the succeedingly difficult stages of this disease. He communicates now via computer voice and email, still has his fabulous mind and sense of humor.
Ooh ! how very sad - such a brutal disease . He was such a beautiful artist -I am sure he will still love the power of Art although he no longer carry it out anymore !
That is a very striking & beautiful painting. It looks like it’s painted by a man who likes women.....she is at her best & looking at him with love perhaps! So sad he can’t paint anymore, his fingers must be itching to pick up his brushes. I do hope his sale goes well & he is able to live his last years in as much comfort he can.
@alophoto@henrir@danette@mave@gijsje@pcoulson@bruni@beryl@kwind@carole_sandford@happypat@happysnaps@sugarmuser@onewing@nicolecampbell Thank you so much for your sweet comments. Dennis carved and painted decoys too, they are fabulous. He traveled all over the world for many years selling air conditioning parts, his wife traveled many places with him so they have a lot of items collected through the years. She passed away last year so his sons are taking care of him now. He’s a wonderful man, he has surely shown everyone how to accept what life deals you.
Nice that you could share some of Dennis' great work. I know way too much about those who are stricken with this awful disease. My best to Dennis and I'm sure he's buoyed by all of the great feedback here on the forum.
He was certainly a talented artist! So sad to hear of his disease. So glad that he still has a wonderful sense of humour and may God give him strength to face the future and all the trials yet to come.
Uhhh- I just don't know what to say! I hope he continues to keep his spirit up and that the heart and soul of his art still comes through in what he can do each day. I don't think I could handle something like this in the graceful way you have spoken of him. That painting is beautiful!
my hat's off to your friend. the people i've known who had gone on because of ALS were all very intelligent and have fantastic skills -- it's such a shame to lose them to such a disease. but i'm glad to hear that your friend still has his sense of humour. his works are fabulous. tell him he has another fan!
Love this beautiful painting.
