I’ve heard about this neon sign “graveyard” for years and we finally visited it last Friday. It was so fun and so wonderful. They made me check my camera, you can only use cameras on Thursdays, but phone cameras were fine, thank goodness.
A great shot - but what a ruling !! in this day and age what is the difference between a a small travel camera and an iPhone !! and why owhy a different rule for Thursday !!
With the rate cell phone cameras are improving it won't be long before they ban them too. That's a shame they couldn't be a little more pleasant about the camera. If Thursday's ok, why not the other days of the week? Interesting rule. Fun shot!
@olivetreeann I did think that maybe it’s because photographers have tripods and light diffusers, etc. people can’t freely walk around when photographers are setting up their shots. They do allow photographers on Thursdays and you can also pay for a “photo shoot”, probably at night. It really is a cool place, the docents standing around were very informative and graciously took a photo with your phone if you asked them.
@louannwarren I was so curious about that I went out to their website to find out why. The main reason was that most of the signs are copy-righted (the Hard Rock Cafe behind you for ex.) so the types of photos you can take of them are limited. There were quite a few rules for the Thursday shoots mostly aimed at keeping the pictures taken for personal/private use (you can't model in front of any of the signs for ex.). They were ok with you posting pictures on the internet as long as you tag their website wherever you post (technically you are advertising for them in exchange for the ability to take pictures at the museum). So that was interesting to find out. The paid "shoot" was quite pricey!! But if you were hoping to take a more artistic approach to your photos there, it'd probably be worth it.

So why would they let you take your cameras in on Thursdays? Weird!
