We tried a new restaurant that was highlighted in a local magazine the other day. It’s “southern style home cooking”, which means fried catfish and okra, meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Corn bread muffins or hot rolls. Banana or bread pudding. You check your diet ideas at the door because southern cooking means butter and lots of it. After we ordered our waitress brought a trio of hot pepper sauces to the table, a necessity for southern food. Jerry ordered fried okra and instead of it being okra slices it was whole okra pods, he said it was good. He had fried catfish I had meat loaf, all like “Momma” used to make. We are glad Ms Mary’s is pretty far away, it would be dangerous for our waistlines and hearts if it was close by.
@pusspup you are the smart one 😊 @nicolecampbell it was fun, we try different restaurants every month or so. @photographycrazy I love conch fritters, sure can’t get them in Texas, you can get them any time I’m sure! @joansmor I know what you mean! @ludwigsdiana thank you Diana!
just fascinating narrative - i've never eaten half of that stuff! i love all the quaint names. i also enjoy your restaurant outings and the enthusiasm you share with us :)
@kwind@gijsje@mittens@radiogirl@ziggy77@carolmw@jacqbb@pcoulson@sugarmuser@365karly1 Jerry is from Montana so the term “southern style cooking” doesn’t mean much to him. Being raised in Texas, I had more of an opportunity to eat those foods. He has learned to enjoy that style of cooking because from time to time I have prepared fried fish and all the trimmings. Not so much anymore, now that we know all about carbohydrates and cholesterol, ha ha. @pistache Thank you Clare! 365 is a great place to learn about different foods the world over, really.
