Louise Bourgeois’ “Maman” by louannwarren

Louise Bourgeois’ “Maman”

The glorious “Maman” from our trip to Crystal Bridges Art Museum last year, for this November’s word “spider”. Sculptor Louise Bourgeois had a frantic childhood and she used her art to explain her feelings. Maman cradles 20 large marble eggs in her steel mesh abdomen. Bourgeois explained the eggs were her 20 troubles and she gave them to Maman so she could be rid of them.
Yikes ! what a spider - such a dramatic sculpture especially for someone who has a fear/ hate of Spiders ! A stunning image and capture Lou Ann .

@beryl @mittens @pcoulson @gijsje @carolmw @koalagardens @ziggy77 @cindymc Thank you all for your great comments. Maman is quite imposing at 30 feet tall, there is an identical sculpture at the Guggenheim Bilboa in Spain. August a year ago I posted a photo of Maman from the ground looking up, it was more ominous, to me.

Well, it's not my "cup of tea" but I'm glad the artist used her artwork to work through those rough childhood years. That's the best part of this piece imho!
