“Bring something from your childhood that you loved, and talk about it.”
@summerfield and @ingrid01 asked to see the childhood memories from the Christmas party we attended last week.
Row 1: Roy and his metal Tonka Truck, he lost his and just recently his brother found this one and gave it to him; Lynn and a small religious piece her mother gave her, with a Bible verse tucked in the base; Nannette and her baptism Bible her mother gave her when she was six.
Row 2: Danny and his Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, every man at the party had a Red Ryder BB gun when they were young; Pat and her two front teeth and baby ring. She fell down the stairs at her home and knocked her teeth out, her mother saved them and gave them to her; John with his 70+ year old teddy bear.
Row 3: Nannette and the cast iron skillet her grandfather gave her. He taught her how to fry deer meat in it and to this day she fries deer meat in it for every family deer hunt and family reunion at the family ranch in west Texas; me with a set of “magnetic” paper dolls, I played with paper dolls in the early 50’s and loved them. At our local book store every clerk in the store was enthralled with the notion of “paper dolls”, they helped me look for them and of course these days all they had was this magnetic set 😊; Jerry with his little red wagon, he hunted wild huckleberries and picked raspberries and put them in the wagon to sell to two neighbors. He also said he pulled little girls around in it but I think he made that up. 😊
Row 4: Tony’s walrus tusk ivory seal and spear from when he lived in Alaska. He also makes the round wooden “TUIT’s”. The guys loved the TUIT’s, they thought it would be good to show their wife when she wanted them to do something and they could say “I will do it when I get around to it”. We all agreed that will NEVER happen! 😊 Last is Carol holding a reindeer made of lead that is over 100 years old. She and her husband John were our hosts. Their home is too beautiful and warm for words.
that was fun! my favourite is jerry with his little wagon, because of the story that goes with it! aces on the collage.
in grade school, i made paper dolls for my cousins by tracing images of pin up girls from magazines. then cut it and paste it in cardboard then we make dresses and gowns. later i had fancied to be a fashion designer as the cousins would make me draw gowns for their paper dolls. we had a lot of fun when we were young, hadn't we? our games and toys, especially the home made ones, stimulated us no end.
I loved reading about all the memories that were shared. My daughter, granddaughter, and I all enjoyed playing with paper dolls for hours at a time. You made a really nice collage with your shots
Thank you Lou Ann for making this collage and posting it! I really enjoyed your narrative! I also like that Jerry has a "double" spot in this collage! Thinks he deserves it with his wagon :)
Also I had no idea what you meant by paper dolls, but saying about a magnetic set, it clicked. I had the non-magnetic just-paper ones as a child too!
What a lovely idea and I enjoyed your narrative. I loved playing with paper dress up dolls when I was a child and my kids loved them too. I think you can still buy them here in Australia.
