Plump and juicy but also prickly

They seem to have a different variety in the Karoo where this was taken. Ours here in the Cape are not as colourful and round but oblong.

They are pretty, but too hard to handle. It is interesting about the differences. I think the ones i have seen in Tucson where a friend of mine lives are more like what you describe.
