This old Italian marble fountain was built in 1920 and has been going till the 90's when vandalism and old age forced it to be shut down. It has been estimated a cost of up to $100,000 is necessary to replace piping and get it going again.
Mother's journeys in 1929 remained around the area of Edinburgh. Roslin (Rosslin) Chapel where many knights in their armour are buried, carved angels playing the bagpipes - (really!) and also Holyrood. At St Giles Church which is magnificent and the Thistle Chapel she was shown "the Brass Plate where Jenny Geddes threw a stool at somebody or other!" {I found out it was at the Dean giving the service, James Hannay, and cried "De'il colic the wame o'thee? “} The Scottish Art Gallery made her keen to learn more about the artists, she liked Colton and Van Dykes. I haven't found out yet where she goes next. 1/2 way through and typed 24785 words!
Lovely fountain. And great job on the processing. I don't mean to be nosey, but do you have brothers and/or sisters? I'm sure they will enjoy reading your mom's journal--and will be so happy that you have typed it.
@yonnie I have 3 sisters, the oldest is 92 (a half sister). I haven't told them yet and i'm looking forward to it as in the past they have been somewhat anti our Mum. I've stood up for her for years and now they might be coming round. This journal will finish what I have tried to do - give the greatest of respect and admiration to our mother. Another Russian family will love it too - the family of Mum's sister with whom she travelled! Thanks for your interest, Yvonne!
Love the shot and processing Maggie. We visited Roslyn chapel about two years ago. It has loads of beautiful carvings and it's where the last bit of The Da Vinci Code was filmed.
Your mums journal reads like a travel book & you must be finding it fascinating Maggiemae!! Love your relay to us of her adventures! Beautiful fountain & would be worth repairing although it sounds a lot of money... roughly £60,000 our money?
Such a lovely fountain but it's a shame it's no longer working. Shame on those vandals :o/ Let's hope the money can be raised to reinstate it to its former glory xx
@maggiemae Oh my goodness, how exciting for the family of your Mum's sister. A few years ago one of my mom's brothers gave me a treasure--a book of old photos and some history of the family. If my house caught on fire, it would be one of the first things I would grab!!!!
Lovely shot and processing. Even if the water part doesn't work anymore, it is still a beautiful work of art.
You have typed quite a bit on your journal. You must be getting writer’s cramp but. You are doing your Mum proud.
What a beautiful photo, Maggiemae. Love the framing of it. Too bad it was vandalized and repairs are so costly. How wonderful that you are continuing on to complete your Mom's journal. It fell into the right hands as you are preserving what is in it forever this way.
@maggiemae I am glad that 365 pushed you to type your Mom's journal and that you are able to get help also with places she went to both here on 365 and online. I am enjoying her adventures and thank you so much once again for sharing. It is fascinating and makes me want to start a journal but my life has not been so interesting.
