Oamaru beacon by maggiemae

Oamaru beacon

This is a 'construction' at the entrance to the old Harbour Wharf which is the only deep water Victorian wharf left surviving. I call it a construction - it is a mixture of steam punk and historic monument!

Three good things;
1. I spent all day trying to find accommodation for our Japanese family arriving next month as a holiday destination!
2. I have to find something that stand up to damage without destruction.
3. Our uke practice went OK - practice for the Victorian Festival coming up!

Tried to read the writing but it's too small...what a very striking beacon, you can't miss that!! Hope the Japanese are sorted...just think of the experience of having a Japanese family staying...I'm sure you would reap lots of benefits from that visit!!

@happypat it's got quite q bit of writing - all about the history. Our Japanese family are a bit difficult - came out for Xmas 2 years ago. The children are rebellious and destructive and the mother talks Japanese all the time, we love to see our son, of course,

@maggiemae Oh dear i didn't realise it was your family....strange I would have thought Japanese children would have been so well behaved...a bit of a nightmare & you can't say anything!! Family is not easy sometimes but as long as your son is happy go with the flo!!

@happypat most of them are beautifully behaved - these two have never been disciplined though! I think Jay is embarrassed by their behaviour but can't get firm or mother will object. And the other grandparents would too!

@maggiemae Oh well lie low...that is what being an in law means....I have to do a bit of that too...!!

It's very interesting to be sure- and the picture almost seems unreal. Good shot. Not so good with the family! It's hard- you want to say something but you can't. Tough all the way around!!

Wonderful colors. And I've enjoyed reading about your Japanese family. Hope you have a good visit and are pleasantly surprised. (Maybe things have changed in two years.)
