1952 by maggiemae

1952

This basic photo was ordered by hubby who was asked to send a photo of his Velocette to a German reporter who will do a story. The journalist said, “put a white sheet at the back of the bike when you take a photo” Not my idea but agreed. Meanwhile John chose one of our 400 thread Egyptian cotton sheets to arrange against the firewood shelter outside! Put blocks of pine logs on top to hold it and at the bottom to ‘tighten’ it up! It was freezing outside but photography had to go on!
I knew that ‘cloning’ can work with eliminating unwanted background like piles of firewood, (Picmonkey) but learnt a hell of lot on the ‘cloning’ tool with this challenge! The sheet didn’t extend to the length of the bike so there was plenty of unacceptable background. Plus the sheet had creases in it! I’ve also played around with some pIcmonkey SC effects.

Three good things:
1. John gave the sheet a good shake and hopefully got rid of any splinters!
2. My challenging letter to a Guardian Trust brought results and the legacy my sister left to me 9 months ago is going through! Could I just repeat that sentence?
3. I’m not buying another camera! I’ve already bought an electric bike and a new mattress and now its new specs! Payback time!
What a nice looking bike! and very nicely photographed too :)

As soon as I read about the money my mind clicked onto new camera!! No you have some restraint so good for you!!
Terrific job with your expensive sheet......works a treat! They will be pleased with the result I think! Watch that sheet next time you get in bed!! Hope any stray splinters are on John's side!!
June 16th, 2015
@happypat John was going to staple the sheet on to the shed, Pat! I managed to stop him with the idea of the pieces of firewood! I'm very happy with my camera!
June 16th, 2015
Corr !! Maggiemae You did a wonderful job , all that editing to achieve a delightful images of the bike !
June 16th, 2015
@beryl Getting the creases out of the sheet was the hardest, Beryl! You can still see here where I haven't evened out the cloning but I lost patience and gave up!
June 16th, 2015
It looks so shiny and well looked after. Nicely done and at least you learned a few things at the same time!
June 16th, 2015
@kiwichick Its nice and clean, Lesley - 'cause John can't start it! He's planning on installing an electric start!
June 16th, 2015
@maggiemae Ha ha, well that would help!
June 16th, 2015
I think I'm in LOVE! :)

A fabulous Machine Maggie.
June 16th, 2015
@juliedduncan Are you a biker chick, Julie?
June 16th, 2015
Great shots both of them -= Fav I know Steve would be interested to see this but he's out at the moment playing in a pub in our local town
June 16th, 2015
There's something about old bikes that Ilike. I love to see the engines and how they work. Great capture well worth the effort you both put in
June 16th, 2015
@maggiemae Yes, I am! Yamaha V-Star! Guess I'll have to post a shot soon now that summer's here. ;)
June 16th, 2015
great looking bike; happy about all three
June 16th, 2015
Nicely done Maggiemae! That's not a simple snapshot! Happy for your "good things".
June 16th, 2015
Cool
June 16th, 2015
Quite the project, with super results. I am laughing about the splinters in the bedsheets, too. ;)
June 16th, 2015
Great shot of a fantastic bike - you did a good job with the sheet and your cloning! Watch out for splinters! Good news on finally sorting out your sisters legacy - you must be so relieved!
June 16th, 2015
I think you did a great job with these pictures. Hope the sheet survived in reasonable shape.
June 17th, 2015
You did good Maggiemae! Hope your sheet recovers!
June 17th, 2015
You did a fantastic job. great bike by the way. A good wash and the dryer should get rig of any splinters, I'm sure. lol.
June 17th, 2015
I sure hope you get the splinters out of the sheet! LOL What a beauty this bike is - hope you'll share the story with us in time.
June 17th, 2015
Great shot and a lot of work...well done
June 17th, 2015
I think this is great. What an honor too! Love your lists...always so fun to read.
June 17th, 2015
@ishutter Not much of a story, Kim but John bought this model and same year of Velocette, new in 1953. Then 2 years ago he bought this one - vintage now!
June 17th, 2015
amazing bike ...I'm sure he'll love your photo it's so detailed.

Bev
Nice shots, Maggie. Great job on the cloning and the effects are cool. Also good 3 things. I had eye doc appointment today and got the full work up. Turns out I have the beginning of what could be glaucoma but will have to keep an eye on it every 6 months or so. Plus I needed new specs, too. But yours are always so cool and you look awesome in them.
June 17th, 2015
@prttblues I had the tests too and are at the 'beginning of glaucoma' but will wait and see - another test in 6 mths. I look better in glasses - you can't see my wrinkly eyelids!
June 17th, 2015
Nice looking bike
June 17th, 2015
What a great looking bike
June 17th, 2015
You have managed to challenge beautifully, I can't see any trace of the unwanted background.
June 17th, 2015
What a classic, Maggie! and great processing!
June 17th, 2015
Nice one
June 17th, 2015
Sounds like a hard work, but for this big toy, who can refuse.
June 17th, 2015
Great shots and processing
June 17th, 2015
You done a fantastic job all that work deserves a fav from me :)
June 17th, 2015
Great processing skills. Love your story too. That bike is younger than me! And I think it's looks in better condition and that is without using my spectacles which I think also need upgrading.
June 17th, 2015
Not much good in snow, I guess! Makes a nice pic though
June 17th, 2015
What a treasure she's beautiful...and great pics
June 17th, 2015
Your cloning practice has paid off - this is very nice.
June 17th, 2015
Great composition and editing!
June 17th, 2015
I think you have done an excellent job! In the first place most people will be looking at the bike instead of the background so don't give that a second thought! You have mad skills my dear!
June 17th, 2015
you did quite well with these shots, maggiemae, especially the processing. bravo!
June 17th, 2015
@summerfield The original ones were sent in just black and white, Vikki - I livened them up here!
June 17th, 2015
what an awesome bike.............love it
June 17th, 2015
A great presentation!
June 20th, 2015
Fabulous capture of the bike - what a good tip to use a white sheet!
And good for you on your "challenging letter" to the Guardian Trust! In general, estates take far too long to wind up, and just serve to accumulate money to the lawyers' accounts :(
June 20th, 2015
@kwiksilver right on, Gillian!
June 21st, 2015
I know how you feel- but consider yourself blessed that you only had to wait 9 mos. It has taken my sister over 2 years to get Dad's legacy in order. I am very tempted to spend some of it on photography. But not a camera- maybe a lens. On the other hand I must not be frivolous either. I might tell myself I can't touch it for 6 months just so I'll spend it wisely- if I spend it at all! Good job on the motorcycle shot!
June 21st, 2015
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann for your thoughts! It often takes years to settle! In the past we have had that. John wanted me to make a budget as to what I would spend it on and what i would save.
June 21st, 2015
@maggiemae Good idea about the list. I've been making a mental one- but I keep crossing the sensible things out! hehe
June 21st, 2015
Bev
@maggiemae You don't have wrinkled eyelids. You are lovely. With or without specs.
June 23rd, 2015
@prttblues Bev - you are so nice! If I didn't use my forehead to hold my wrinkled eyelids up, they would fold over my eyes and I could hardly see!
