This basic photo was ordered by hubby who was asked to send a photo of his Velocette to a German reporter who will do a story. The journalist said, “put a white sheet at the back of the bike when you take a photo” Not my idea but agreed. Meanwhile John chose one of our 400 thread Egyptian cotton sheets to arrange against the firewood shelter outside! Put blocks of pine logs on top to hold it and at the bottom to ‘tighten’ it up! It was freezing outside but photography had to go on!
I knew that ‘cloning’ can work with eliminating unwanted background like piles of firewood, (Picmonkey) but learnt a hell of lot on the ‘cloning’ tool with this challenge! The sheet didn’t extend to the length of the bike so there was plenty of unacceptable background. Plus the sheet had creases in it! I’ve also played around with some pIcmonkey SC effects.
Three good things:
1. John gave the sheet a good shake and hopefully got rid of any splinters!
2. My challenging letter to a Guardian Trust brought results and the legacy my sister left to me 9 months ago is going through! Could I just repeat that sentence?
3. I’m not buying another camera! I’ve already bought an electric bike and a new mattress and now its new specs! Payback time!
As soon as I read about the money my mind clicked onto new camera!! No you have some restraint so good for you!!
Terrific job with your expensive sheet......works a treat! They will be pleased with the result I think! Watch that sheet next time you get in bed!! Hope any stray splinters are on John's side!!
@happypat John was going to staple the sheet on to the shed, Pat! I managed to stop him with the idea of the pieces of firewood! I'm very happy with my camera!
@beryl Getting the creases out of the sheet was the hardest, Beryl! You can still see here where I haven't evened out the cloning but I lost patience and gave up!
Great shot of a fantastic bike - you did a good job with the sheet and your cloning! Watch out for splinters! Good news on finally sorting out your sisters legacy - you must be so relieved!
@ishutter Not much of a story, Kim but John bought this model and same year of Velocette, new in 1953. Then 2 years ago he bought this one - vintage now!
Nice shots, Maggie. Great job on the cloning and the effects are cool. Also good 3 things. I had eye doc appointment today and got the full work up. Turns out I have the beginning of what could be glaucoma but will have to keep an eye on it every 6 months or so. Plus I needed new specs, too. But yours are always so cool and you look awesome in them.
@prttblues I had the tests too and are at the 'beginning of glaucoma' but will wait and see - another test in 6 mths. I look better in glasses - you can't see my wrinkly eyelids!
Great processing skills. Love your story too. That bike is younger than me! And I think it's looks in better condition and that is without using my spectacles which I think also need upgrading.
I think you have done an excellent job! In the first place most people will be looking at the bike instead of the background so don't give that a second thought! You have mad skills my dear!
Fabulous capture of the bike - what a good tip to use a white sheet!
And good for you on your "challenging letter" to the Guardian Trust! In general, estates take far too long to wind up, and just serve to accumulate money to the lawyers' accounts :(
I know how you feel- but consider yourself blessed that you only had to wait 9 mos. It has taken my sister over 2 years to get Dad's legacy in order. I am very tempted to spend some of it on photography. But not a camera- maybe a lens. On the other hand I must not be frivolous either. I might tell myself I can't touch it for 6 months just so I'll spend it wisely- if I spend it at all! Good job on the motorcycle shot!
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann for your thoughts! It often takes years to settle! In the past we have had that. John wanted me to make a budget as to what I would spend it on and what i would save.
