Now Seward comes into the picture and this town has more oomph than others outside this Aleutian Island area. Coal. fishing and tourism carry this town huddled under magnificent high snow topped mountains into a self sufficient coastal community!
This bird is either a 'tufted' puffin or a 'horned' puffin - not sure!
Three good things;
1. We got woken at 7am by audio notices making it obvious if your trip ended here - Seeward - you had to be off the ship within an hour! Tried to ignore but gave up
2. Some guests were carrying on in two legs of this cruise and opted to take the train way up 100miles to Anchorage. We were not one of them.
3. Those tourists were the reason why our ship did not exit the port on time - we heard that if there was rain, the train stopped. However we had a day here at a Sealife Auditorium where you could watch sea animals go up and down, back and forward etc etc. I really don’t agree with this confined space for both animals and birds but got some good photos of the scenery !
A puffin!! :) How very cool. His puffy little beak and curved top knot is great. What an excellent trip you are having... I am following along on the map and enjoying the sights.
