Hubbard Glacier has to be the best experience on this particular leg of the trip. Because of the weather - and the lack of huge ice floes - we were able to get so close to this huge ice shelf! Within 1/3 mile!
I felt rather nervous with all the ‘calving’ as they called it thundering off into the sea but as it was happening all the time and the Captain didn’t appear to be worried, I relaxed.
Three good things:
1. We slept in till 9.35am this morning! Couldn’t believe it - but then thats what we seem to do all of the time - sleep, eat, look, drink Margueritas!
2. Ice floes floating past made lovely blue photos
3. Decided not to buy a $4000 diamond!
I agree I think this might be quite scary, all that ice & dark blue sea......hope it's not rough too but you haven't mentioned that so perhaps you are in a sheltered harbour area. You don't need an expensive diamond when you get to travel like this! My DIL Jo sent me a link of a tv programme & your John was featured, the Indian gathering g in the south at Invercargil but I couldn't watch it as it was different time zone!
instant fav...love the composition and the hair in the wind...awesome place...good decision not to buy the diamond...you can get some camera gear instead... lol...:o)
@maree_sanderson I've seen all sorts of cameras around Maree here! Big ones, long ones, little ones - a professor had a little one that he said had 400xzoom! I can't believe that!
Wow - that looks amazing - and very very cold. Think of all the camera gear you could buy instead of the diamond! I saw the programme and it was very interesting. I seem to recall you took a few photos of that event.
What a view, looks so cold. So nice to sleep in and have what I call the easy life. We live for the weekends here to do just that, sleep in. I agree with you, I would not want to wear an expensive ring like that anywhere. Nice to look at and try on though. FAV
