Patsy Ann was an English Bull Terrier in the 1930's when she met every boat arriving in Juneau. She would know which dock the boat would arrive at and be there waiting. She would always know when a boat was arriving (no timetables then) and trot down to the right dock. When she died after 12 years of meetings, they lowered her coffin into the sea just where this memorial is.
Three Good Things:
1. Didn't buy that diamond ring - one was only $83000 US! Had good fun trying some on, though.
2. After being the only ship in port for weeks, it was odd to share this port with four other enormous cruise ship!
3. A great steak served on a cooking hot grill on the outside deck for dinner - coats were a necessity!
@tremerryn I felt it was sad too - couldn't help the tears. This dog belonged to nobody but became a local identity. I wonder if her master went off on a ship and never came back. Now I've really got myself in a twist!
A very dutiful dog who took it upon herself to do this welcoming thing, a fantastic ambassador for Alaska!
The lady sitting next to the dog is interesting, she looks a tad miserable, is she one of yours?
@happypat No she seemed to be a local and sat here for some time. She stared at me when I took the photo but looked away as I pretended to take photos all around!
What a wonderful story and way to remember this dog. You do wonder when an animal does something like this, if there was someone that never came home. Makes me sad as we had to take my sister in laws cats to a shelter. She had two for 7 years and they were about 11 years old. Could not take them as we have two cats ourselves. Tried to find other homes as well.
@maggiemae think above was meant for @darsphotos "I worked in a cat shelter and this happens a lot but because the cats have been loved they are ready to adopt another home!"
Love the photo, great composition and I think it works well with the inclusion of the woman. They both look like they could be waiting for someone. Your accompanying story is lovely too.
@maggiemae Thank you for saying this Maggiemae. Makes me feel a lot better. We dropped them off at a nice place. Just felt bad and final as she just passed. So hard to undo someones life.
