Recital

I got really lucky in this photo! While our car’s front tyres were being replaced (very necessary), I walked around Nelson and found this magnificent cathedral. Inside was a string quartet practicing! I sat down in wonder and pleasure. Tap on my shoulder, there was a priest saying, if you came tonight here, you would be paying $80.00! I gave him a big smile.

Three good things:
1. The music was wonderful but I didn’t know the composition. Have to find out.
2. Decided to go onwards to Inland Lakes in this region - maybe lots of sandflies but we do have insect screens on all the 10 windows!
3. The ambience of the cathedral almost brought me to tears - my sister’s life had gone just a few weeks ago!
Nice way to wait ;)

Just lovely. Sends chills down my back. I went to Washington National Cathedral at one time and had a similar experience.

How wonderful, Maggie. The cathedral is magnificent indeed.
Your picture is beautiful, but it's really amazing on black.

A great find. You have really captured a solid sense of spirituality in the shot too.

February 10th, 2017

Lovely POV and lighting, and how wonderful to have come in time to hear the rehearsal.
February 10th, 2017
@skstein Hardly anyone there as well! Fairly early in the day and it must have been meant - for the music to hear as well as the photo!

Lucky that they were playing and lucky with the light as well...

I can practically hear them!
February 10th, 2017
Beautiful light and how cool to see.
February 10th, 2017
Fabulous composition and editing. The girls really stand out from the background!
February 10th, 2017
I'll bet that was wonderful to listen to
February 10th, 2017
@joysfocus I've just found that it was Bach - Concerto in A Minor Joy!
February 10th, 2017
Lovely shot. It was great that you got to listen to this string quartet. That concerto is a very lovely piece. It has taken me a while after my mother's death, but now I am beginning to find such experiences comforting (such as stepping into this beautiful cathedral).
February 10th, 2017
How wonderful for you, a real treat! This shot is beautiful...
February 10th, 2017
@daisymiller I thought it would be comforting too but it is too fresh at the moment - better to get out amongst nature and the weather!
February 10th, 2017
Excellent shot and how lucky was that. I wonder if the priest was hinting for a donation.
February 10th, 2017
@onewing He did have an empty plate in his hand but he didn't stay long enough for me to donate. However, I did in another area.
February 10th, 2017
@maggiemae Ha ha, a subtle hint then. It worked.
February 10th, 2017
What a great photo, Maggiemae and so nice to be able to enjoy them for a bit without paying for it. You are like me, I love music. I hope you share it somehow on here. I feel very strongly in a chapel or church. Maybe it was my years growing up in the Catholic religion and in churches which I respect and feel so strongly inside and emotional as well. I could spend hours literally inside taking photos and just what it brings to the spirit and soul. I am sorry about your sister. It is so hard to lose those we love. FAV

The building looks rather stark but there's such a warmth exuding from this image. Has to be a Fav.
