Cruising by maggiemae

Cruising

The cruise ship Noordam arrived in Akaroa Harbour today and the tenders ferried 1000s of passengers in to the little town to be carted off on various tours. The sea fog crept in during the day and just about hid this ship in the harbour.
Three Good Things
1. Turned out nice and hot again for various walks around the Camp.
2. A coffee down on the sidewalk watching people buy tons of things.
3. Dinner down in the town at the same bar above the sands. It was full of locals all having a great time including a dog. Someone would throw the stick out the window, the dog would race around, dive into the water, retrieve the stick then come back into the restaurant and shake himself!
Ah.... love Holland America Cruises.... Have taken several. This makes me want to go on another one. Great shot.

There's nothing as fun as sitting people watching Maggie! I have never been on a cruise but think it would be hard waiting your turn to get off, I am always at the front wanting to be away! You're only as quick as the slowest in a big party! I like this big ship in the mist!

A lovely image and light

The mist is beautiful and makes this a more dramatic scene ...Nice capture! The tours sound like fun.

The fog looks lovely curling around the hills and ship.

Lovely shot. The fog makes your shot have a special atmospheric look.

A terrific shot of the ship for starters and the fog adds so much mystery to it. I like the way you have chosen to frame it with the tree. This one is definitely headed to the PP. I hope you didn't get doused by the dog.

The ship almost looks too big for the waterway and it's hard to believer there is a mist so thick it can erase it! Great shot!

Wonderful shot

wow it's a massive one maggie :)

I find those massive liners quite threatening. even more so in the setting which you have it here. Full of atmosphere. A great shot.

@helenhall This one is one of the smaller ships, Helen- 2000 passengers! Some of them have 5000!

@happypat They organise it very well on the ships, Pat. But there still are queues.

Neat capture and not the type of day they would have hoped for. With just under 2000 pax and 800 crew she is about middle size.

Great image of this huge ship in the mist!

Looks like a storm coming. It must have been interesting to watch all the comings and goings.

Am I imagining a smaller boat in front? No-one else has mentioned it and I feel it gives a huge sense of scale to the larger ship. Very atmospheric with the fog xx

@psychographer No not your imagination, Lisa! There is a launch there in front of this ship!

@maggiemae Oh good...phew! I've only recently started to wear my specs when I should and thought I might be seeing things :) It really does show how huge the ship is so I think it makes the shot tbh xx
