At my son's house and these two parents were able to go on a motorbike ride while we looked after granddaughter who was actually asleep most of the time and no problem!
Three good things;
1. Parents don't want Sabrina to look at screens on computers etc so I can't look at 365 when she is around - pretty much always as she loves to see the pictures!
2. There are plenty of cupboards here to hide in and use my computer!
3. The blue jays are very noisy but I'm going to get a photo - squirrels abound also!
I couldn't imagine you hiding in the cupboards just to use the computer!! I guess you'll have to spend your babysitting time taking photos instead of looking at them :) How nice for the parents to be able to get out for a ride!
The camera is not always a welcome sight in families! I think when Sabrina has grown older they will be glad of every single photo you took! I always think a photo taking granny is such a treasure, taking all these pictures of the little darlings that mum & dad haven't time to take! Carry on regardless! They must have so enjoyed their freedom, hope you spent the evening taking photos & looking at 365!!!!!
Great photo! They look like they're going to ride into the future. I absolutely agree with Lou Ann. Grandparenthood gives one the privilege of taking photos of grandchildren over parent "rules" as long as you're not completely overriding the parent's wishes- within reason. Betsy and Christopher are not keen on Isaac and Micah spending too much time looking at my ipad (special games for grandchildren and pictures on there) but when they want to come and wake you up in the early AM, I say "let the games begin!" so I can wake up more slowly while they entertain themselves! I'm sure you will not overstep your bounds, but take those pictures to remember the visit by, by all means.
As for #3 put out some peanuts- you'll have more jays and squirrels than you know what to do with!
@olivetreeann Nice to read your input, Ann! I applaud the parents for trying but unless things change radically when they get to school they will feel outcasts. Everyone will have an iPad!
@maggiemae My older son and his wife started out with the no TV, video, etc. rule. They held steady with child #1 but after a few years in school and the event of child #3, they've changed their tune! Still no TV but they get programs on Netflix and watch movies on it for family fun night. The younger son and his wife also had no TV for some time, but it came with their internet connection in the new home, so for the time being they have it but the grands are only allowed to watch 1 program a day. Their older son is the only one in school right now. He seems pretty savvy about what the other kids watch, but isn't showing any signs of feeling like he's missing something. So, I think most kids are ok with it. Time will tell.
Cool photo. I have had the same dilemma regarding photos of grandkids so I always check before posting any on 365. A private page on FB helps us share photos which is especially important when they live on the other side of the world. Our 2 year old Swedish grandson now knows us when we talk on FaceTime since we spent time with them last year.
I had to laugh when I envisaged you in a cupboard for 365! The things we do. LOL
Very nice capture, has a great air of mystery. As I have no children I have no idea how I would handle things like tv and iPads. Most of my friends who have kids and grandkids seem to be okay with the youngsters having access to technology.
@maggiemae indeed! I believe that tv, iPads and computers have a place. Being married to someone who is at the pinnacle of technology I understand how powerful it is but we both love the bush and being off the grid. A happy medium can be reached.
Being back in the hotseat of full-time parenthood to the two toddler grandbabies, I can ASSURE you that they LOVED their moment of freedom that you guys provided!!! DO IT AGAIN! DO IT AGAIN!!! :-)
