Budapest is a city of great magnificence and not advertised - it seems to be popular by reputation. The city walls and Buda Castle are so obviously well built that they look as if they have been constructed in the last century!
But… It was first completed in 1265, but the massive Baroque palace today occupying most of the site was built between 1749 and 1769.
Three good things:
1 The river Danube is just there with all the history that the world knows
2. We got serenaded by a duo on strings - so good and would play what you requested - well, I asked for a Mazurka and he played, ‘Roll out the Barrel”
3. Hungarian cuisine uses a lot of paprika - not heavily hot but it just tempts you to return for more!
Am just catching up with your travels after a week in the UK for a family Christmas...our first in 17 years not spent in France! If I remember correctly, you're also going to Prague. I do hope so. We went for a day trip! Wonderful day, super memories, lovely people. Wherever you go, enjoy every moment...and hope your head is calmer.
Gorgeous building and architecture.
Love your #2.
I'm sure you'll love Prague. Please don't forget to visit the Old Town Hall with the famous Prague Astronomical Clock and the Jewish Quarter, the Gothic Charles Bridge and Church of St. Nicholas in the Lesser Town.
