The Kapellbrücke (literally, Chapel Bridge) is a covered wooden footbridge spanning diagonally across the Reuss in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. Named after the nearby St. Peter's Chapel,the bridge is unique because it contains a number of interior paintings dating back to the 17th century, although many of them were destroyed along with a larger part of the centuries-old bridge in a 1993 fire. Subsequently restored, the Kapellbrücke is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world's oldest surviving truss bridge
Unbelievably built in 1333 and our feet trod on these old timbers!
Three good things;
!. Comfy bed with less feathers in the duvet meant cooler sleep. Outside temps, 3degC!
2. A great train journey through the heart of Switzerland - chalets, green fields, huge barns where they keep stock in winter ( it is winter) but no snow at the moment.
3. A bomb threat in the Airport where our train finished proved safe - somebody left a backpack in a place and there were police everywhere!
Been there, too. many years ago. And I have walked that bridge and taken pictures for every cornere except this. Beautiful and thanks for the lovely memories you bring.
