Its wonderful to know the devotion of 365’ers - pots boiled dry etc.
I know the mountains are not too far from my window so set to and tried to take a photo between the branches of our central kowhai tree.
48 photos later, thought I had done OK. From f2.8 to f22 then ISO 200 to 1600. It was so difficult trying to focus between the branches which were only a short stone’s throw away.
Three good things;
1. The sun shone all day and on these distant mountains which were 106km away and 1600m high.
2. I’m so glad we don’t have mud in the winter in our particular area.
3. Made risotto for the first time - Its not like boiled rice. My effort was almost good - just needed about 5 minutes more and with more liquid. Mushroom with parsley grabbed from where it is growing wild on the concrete pathway.
Hats off for your determination and dedication! I do sympathise as I struggled badly with the Docks shot today (and yesterday). I didn't approach it as methodically as you have here though.
How lucky you are to have a view of he mountains! I miss that the most of where we live now~! What a beautiful image of them too behind the tree with such good light.
@grammyn They are not really as clear as I would like, Katy - I need a different lens for that distance and I'm not planning on spending a lot of money!
This was one of those rare occasions when manual focus can do a better job than automatic focus. The secret ingredients that make a good risotto are time... and lots of patient stirring - mushroom and fresh garden peas is my favourite.
@vignouse ...and I learnt a lot in this exercise, making the choices in focus and ISO and keeping the camera to keep the. Risotto the same - I'm never very good at tasting but in this recipe - tasting the rice for texture is all about it. The other thing I learnt is putting butter on the top and letting it sit for a few minutes. Plus the cheese of course!
So hard to take beyond the immediate solid thing in front of the lens. You did amazing, to be honest I love the trying & anything you give us is always interesting! Risotto, there's a challenge! I never fancy risotto & Harry would really turn his nose up but it's an interesting collection of flavours I imagine. I don't mind rice with other savoury stuff, I love rice pudding but risotto is a step too far for me!
@happypat I never really appreciated the risotto, Pat - creaminess is not usual with rice but her it is all about it! You have to have Arboria rice but you can choose so many different flavours or ingredients but they do say parmesan cheese is best. It is easy but you have to stand over it. Stores well and good for another go - I put in cut up rare steak into it tonight!
Sometimes with the fixed lens cameras you have to keep hitting the shutter release button until it figures out what you really want to focus. The funny thing with mine when I'm using it in the vicinity of a bird is that they think it's some kind of bird call and keep coming closer! I had purchased a container of risotto not knowing what it involved cooking it. Wish I'd read the label more closely. It's a lot of work! But what you put in yours sure sounded good!
@olivetreeann That's actually a good tip, Ann! Keep hitting the shutter release button. I think risotto can be improved with a handful of chopped herbs.
On my Powershot if I go half way it helps the camera to focus. Then to take the shot I press all the way. If the back ground is "busy" it has a hard time focusing on the closer object, so sometimes I will focus on something that is the same distance and then move the camera to my subject and take the shot.
