“She went to the Afternoon Clouds and asked them to play with her’
A delightful excerpt from the book, The Sun’s Babies” by Edith Howes, first published 1910 and last edition,1949. I was given this book in 1949, aged 7. It must have been so new!
An exercise in photographing illustrations. Maybe better on the Black..
Three Good Things:
1. Reading this book is total pleasure at the imagination of the author!
2. This was the story of the Rain Fairy who got brassed off doing her work all day without any play!
3. This gorgeous fairy looks quite adult - the only four illustrations in this book were by Frank Watkins.
A beautiful and clever illustration .It shows how style in illustrations have changed since this time .this image of the fairy is certainly very beautiful but adult like , and far from an image for a child 's story book SO wonderful to still have such a lovely childhood treasure Maggie .
As soon as I saw this photo I was reminded of the classic Flower Fairy books by Ciceley Mary Barker. Published in the early 1920’s I had every one. I can see the covers now . She is a beautiful graceful fairy.
