We modified our garden last year in November - took out all the weeds, unnecessary plants etc and put in weed mat and forest floor topping. Since then a heap of plants have blossomed and I also put in new rhododendrons in the areas where we got rid of some big trees..
This is one of them -the first to flower. It is called “Unique’ - pink tipped and creamy white.
Thankful for:
A wet and cold day - feet up, book reading, googling (what else?_ My husband said in the ‘old days’ we got out the encyclopaedia!
"Unique" is so beautiful. Love the color, looks elegant. I don't know if one can call a flower elegant.
I never heard of a weed mat. can it be cut and laid around some plants. what does it do?
@bruni It comes in big rolls and is cut out to suit the garden and then where a plant is, you make a hole for it to grow. Supresses the weeds but is breathable.
Such a beauty , Maggie , , such a delicate colour and somehow quite bridal with the added bonus of having variegated leaves ! I have used a weed mat but only under the gravelled sitting area in the garden , and I have used "bark" - I assume the same as your forest floor topping , on some of my flower beds - I find this alone supresses weeds well . In fact bought more this year to put on other areas ( or should I say for Gary) to put on other beds when we tidy them for winter !
@beryl 'forest floor' was not bark - a lot cheaper. I guess the crew all got down on their knees and scraped the forest floor for this! lol! And, similar to you - we got our garden crew to do this!
