Victorian Celebration Week by maggiemae

Victorian Celebration Week

It is Victorian Week here in Oamaru NZ and its all go!
Sitting on the street watching the costumes and elegance go past…. or go to the Annual Victorian Picnic in our beautiful Public Gardens.
So popular with tourists, and so many delighted and maybe confused from our Rest homes. They get beautifully elegant cups of fragrant tea, scones, jam and cream etc - all free.
These four were not confused - sitting in the the Band Rotunda…

To be thankful for:
This wonderful social scene where everybody talks with everybody. Little stories that you would never know unless you engaged conversation with a stranger!
What a great idea it really encourages people to talk to each other

A lovely idea , and these ladies surely have plenty to talk about (shame that they didn't sit as elegant as the ladies of the Victorian era sat ! )

Love that hat (with the blue weather)...

Beautiful shot. How very more elegant they were in those days! When I was younger we used to put on our Sunday best and go strolling along the Sliema seafront. Today's youngsters put on jeans (the majority torn on purpose) a pair of joggers and a T-shirt which for us weren't good even during the worst of the week days.

Goodness me, they've gone to a lot a trouble to look the part. Wonder if they have their whale-bone corsets on too.

@golftragic I doubt it - there are no maids in waiting around nowadays to do up the buttons!
November 16th, 2019
lovely dresses and hats … really like how you also captured the man with the striped jacket
November 16th, 2019
@maggiemae Oh dear, the #1 maid's day off?
November 16th, 2019
@golftragic Its the Upstairs Maid, Marnie - the one that John keeps wanting to have!
November 16th, 2019
@maggiemae Oh yes, silly me. We have a lot of trouble with our downstairs maid and the cook, both seem to go missing just when you need them.
November 17th, 2019
@golftragic Not to mention the Butler, Marnie! I think he has run away with the Upstairs Maid!

@yaorenliu Yes, Yao - we have lots of NZ tourists here at this time and most of them make their own costumes!
