Sweetgum tree seeds... by marlboromaam

Sweetgum tree seeds...

Just a black and white shot of the green sweetgum tree balls. Hard to believe those great big trees come from those tiny, tiny seeds (inside these spiky balls) in the foreground. http://365project.org/marlboromaam/365/2012-07-23
Great tones

@kerristephens Thank you, Kerri!

@deburahiru Appreciate your honesty, Deb! I had to have a black and white for this album and this was it. Thank you for your comments, as always!

So beautiful, and you know how I'm trying to learn about b&w shots---this helps. Thanks for posting it here.

@yonnie You are too kind, gal! This is not such a great black and white. Please only use this one as a bad example! LOL! Thank you for your lovely comments! Always appreciated!

@marlboromaam I like the color one much better. Like I said, it helps me learn ; )

@yonnie LOL! We do learn from bad examples, too! =)

@daisy They are amazing trees and hated by so many! Thank you for your kind comments, Kathryn! I always enjoy your visit!

Got these darn things all over my yard. Nice shot

Interesting seeds Maggie. I have seen something that looks like these, but I don't know if sweet gum trees grow this far north. Great b/w! They almost look metallic!

@anazad511 Thank you, Ana! Appreciate your honesty! I know there are many that only like color.

@peterdegraaff Thank you so much, Peter!

@beckys LOL! Thank you, Becky! Yep, they're every where around here, too!

@skipt07 Thank you, Skip! I know they've got these trees in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Where are you?

The textures come out so well in b&w! Nice.

@lynnb Thank you very much, Lynn! Grateful for your kind comments, as always!

@skipt07 You got 'em there! They may not be as plentiful as we have them here, but I'll bet if you ventured into the woods that you would find some! Just look for the brown spiky balls on the ground. =)

I've never heard of the tree before.... super cool seeds. Love your photo!! So much texture.

@kwind Thank you! Really appreciate your kind comments and visit! Because of 365, I found a new fascination for these things. They are despised by most folks around here and considered and nuisance and a pain in the butt. If you step on one barefooted by mistake, it really hurts!

Love the soft edges and the prickly balls! Nice contrast and very effective in B&W!

Lovely B&W textures.

Fab capture and wonderful lighting. These are not my favorite seeds because they make such a mess & I'm constantly picking them up off the lawn. However! .... they make a terrific photo. You did well!

Nice capture, you've done an awesome job capturing the detail.

Lyn
So lovely - I gathered sweet gum balls for pictures early on in my project and never thought to use b&w. . .that's why you are such an inspiration!

@lyno Thank you, Lynn! They are in my early beginnings here, too. Always glad to know I can inspire someone. =)
