Most of the land around here used to be owned by the Hunt family and it is/was mainly seeded with loblolly pines. These pines grow very fast and are harvested for lumber and pulp for making paper. Pines are one of South Carolinas most renewable resources. Some of the Hunt land was sold off for a few homes with acreage. When the pines were harvested, without reseeding - the hardwoods moved in and gradually begin to take over which are what they're doing in my little patch of woods.
