@rachelwithey Hi Rachel, Well....not shutter speed (darn!). I can change the ISO, and I can get an exposure on a plus or minus scale from zero (darker results -- lighter results -- I'm not exactly sure what the camera is adjusting in little its inner workings) I can specify metering based on whole area, smaller centered area, or a much smaller specific area and have figured out (duh) that I can get it to meter on a particular little area in the center of the screen, then quickly change where it's aimed, so that it's not necessarily centered on the point I used for metering. I'm really pretty technically ignorant. Little by little I'm learning. There are a number of pre-determined settings with cute little icons that I haven't fully explored. Instead I've been experimenting with the various things I can alter when it's on "Program Auto" (auto exposure with adjustable settings) -- some combinations of which probably get me similar results as the pre-sets.
@rachelwithey I do try to remember to use it when I'm trying to get something close up. But I could certainly use more practice in trying to get as "macro" as the camera will allow me to focus.
@rachelwithey Oh, BTW...silly me. I really am so ignorant. I went to a concert last night with my sister in law, and before the concert began we were talking about photography in general and then I was telling her about answering you regarding the camera's various settings. She said something about f-stop and the numbers and I realized (and she confirmed) that the exposure scale up and down from 0.0 is f-stop settings. Well, that goes to show how much I still have to learn.
There really are so many terms to get your head round aren't there? And so many camera features - I don't know half of what mine does! But I do have a point and shoot that looks similar to yours and the macro setting is really good so what about a challenge to experiment with the macro setting on your camera and see how close in you can get. Might work well with your monthly colour challenge as well. Have fun I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Meanwhile I'm thinking about forced perspective shots for my challenge.
