Another grasshopper who ended up on the hood of my car as I pulled out of my friend's driveway in the country. (see yesterday's) This one was perched on the windshield wiper. He (or she) rode quite a long distance with me. I planned to stop when I got to the highway and put him off there (for his own sake). but when I got to the top of the ridge I thought I might have a good photo op with the blacktop and yellow stripe down the center. I pulled off to get out the camera and he took that opportunity to go ahead and disembark before I could get a picture.
I have sometimes thought about how it must feel to a critter like this -- or a fly who gets stuck inside the car -- to find themselves so far from "home." Goodbye to all the friends they ever had. Poor little suckers.
OK I suppose I shouldn't over-anthropomorphize. But still...whoa, baby. There he sat, his little antennae blowing in the wind as we went down the road, up and around and up some more. The ride of his life! What stories he would be able to tell.
Right now he is probably telling all his mates about the amazing adventure just had. Youd better look out, as once word gets out about the lady and her wild ride, there could be a whole swarm along to share the fun.
