For my get pushed challenge, Joan @joansmor asked me to do something to honor breast cancer awareness month. I'll try to make my explanation short. A dear friend, who I don't get to see often as she lives in Wisconsin, has had a very difficult time with cancer that started as breast cancer. More than ten years ago, as part of the requirements for something I wanted to pursue, I asked her to mentor me in my attempt to become better attuned with the cycles of the earth and more knowledgeable with regard to the natural elements, etc. She is a master gardener, and well grounded in the ways of nature. We didn't continue with the formal mentoring, as it happened, but the one "assignment" she gave me was to take time to notice all the various shades of green, and I've taken that with me all these years -- particularly now that I am doing 365 and opening my eyes to more and more that surrounds me. I included the pink rose because of the pink connection to breast cancer awareness, and because there are a few on my rose bush -- mostly way up high. (I'm sure my friend would have pruned the bush properly!) The ceramic breast in the lower right was made many years ago by a different friend. I admired the ones she had made as cups (there used to be a stand, I believe). We traded something I had crafted for this one.
@joansmor here, finally, is my response to the challenge you gave me. I know that, to a certain extent, the variation in greens pictured here is a result of light, shade, white balance, etc.
@kittikat Interestingly enough, I had been planning to make a "different shades of green" collage for my friend before I was given this get pushed challenge. I "got pushed" by the challenge to go ahead and do it.
@lleo Thanks, Gwenllian. I was please to have an excuse to use that ceramic breast in this collage. I didn't think of it at first, but saw it on my shelf and it clicked. It's something I really love.
Gorgeous shades and shapes of green! Now, that I'm a new Grandma and my daughter is breast feeding her baby, I'm reminded that breasts are meant for giving and sustaining life, not snuffing it out. I pray for a cure everyday. Seems like more younger women are getting diagnosed and, of course men aren't immune, either. My greatest hope is for ALL cancers to be eradicated and soon. Wonderful collage, Mary!
