My get pushed challenge from Anne @anne_k was to "pick your favourite artist who is not a photographer, and take a photograph inspired by their work." One of my favorite artists is Andrew Wyeth. This is my first attempt. Darker than many of his works, with a tad too much color, it doesn't really resemble his painting entitled "Wind from the Sea," (can be seen here: http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/exhibitions/2014/andrew-wyeth.html ) but is inspired by it. His image focused mostly on the view through the window. I've always been enchanted by the curtains billowing into the room through the open window. So yesterday I spent some time in my son's room, with a fan just out of view on the flat roof outside the window. I like the results, but want to try more inspired by Wyeth. Windows are a recurring element in a lot of his images, so I may continue thinking about that. But there is a wide scope of inspiration that I can take from his work.
This one, I think, is nicer viewed larger.
@susanalena Thanks, Susan. Artificial breeze with fan outside window, but I'm glad it produced the effect I'd hoped. I had to keep reaching over and adjust the curtain so it would billow out. After just a bit it would become folded in on itself and wouldn't get the satisfying lift. Hahaha
@seattlite Thanks, Gloria. The painting is one I like that had been hanging on the wall in our front entry before renovation. It will have to find a new spot as that is where they cut the new door into the bathroom! So in the meantime it's sitting in Dan's room and I stood it sideways on it's end (it usually hangs "landscape") for a more casual, less "in place" look. I don't know if that comes across -- suspect not.
My apologies for the delayed response, I thought I had responded already but I clearly needed that day of R&R to get my brain cells back in order!
I really do like this shot. I love the movement in the curtain, so well captured, and the soft lighting is gorgeous.
Wonderful interpretation of the theme, I was so looking forward to seeing which artist you'd choose. I hope you've enjoyed it.
