I Love You...I Know #1

My get pushed partner Liana @kiwianna challenged me to do "a street candid that shows something unique to your local environment." I dithered most of the week, trying to think of what was unique to my local environment. I know there are things...but my imagination was not in high gear and Manhattan, Kansas is a fairly typical Midwest university town. Yesterday I drove past the Wareham which was a movie theater when I was growing up. It's now used for a variety of events, including wedding receptions. My attention was drawn to the side of the marquee that said "I love you. I know." So after I finished visiting my mom I drove back through downtown and the event was evidently just beginning as there were multiple people going in. By the time I got parked and had walked to a good vantage point across the street the number of guests entering had thinned considerably, so I had to wait around to try and get a few shots with people. This is probably the best of the lot as far as including people goes. And if you look carefully at the billboard, you may be able to read "The Wareham Opera House -- Historic Event Venue." So I'm gonna count the Wareham as what is unique to my local environment. The theater sits near what was the Wareham Hotel. It's now apartments, I believe, and a restaurant called Harry's occupies the first floor (named, I would suppose for Harry Wareham, who, in addition to buying the theater in 1893, and building the hotel in 1926, at various times formed the Manhattan Ice, Light, and Power company, ran an ice skating rink, started the first telephone company in town, owned an outdoor advertising company...the list goes on and on. You can read about him yourself here:

P.S. Frank and I just arrived a the Bluestem Bistro where our friends Clay and Karen Myers-Bowman are having a goodbye reception before they move out of town. I didn't realize the 'Daniel & Sarah' on the marquee are their son, Daniel and his bride until Karen said they were up so late at the Wareham.

I've posted another photo in my Alternates album that shows more of the building:

@yrhenwr Darn! People do insist on parking in the parking slots downtown. Didn't they know I would want to get a clear shot of the Wareham?? :-) Thanks.
