My Dream Vacation by mcsiegle

My Dream Vacation

My get pushed partner has taken to doing the challenge he’s given his partner. So I decided I’d do the challenge I gave him — a real or ideal vacation. Here’s mine:

Finally! For years I’ve wanted to visit the archives of the Society of the Sacred Heart. Tuesday I had that research visit and found some neat things that gave me a view of the educational experience my grandmother and her stepmother’s little sister had at the Academies of the Sacred Heart they attended from January 1904 through June 1908.

In May of 1908, my grandma’s last year, the Academy at Lake Forest, Illinois celebrated the beatification of their founder, which was happening in Rome. Locally they had ceremonies that included mass and music and unveiling a picture of the founder, Madeleine Sophie Barat. This is a page of the community’s house journal, which begins their record of that ceremony. You can see on the third line from the bottom my grandmother’s name—Gertrude Geis. She was chosen by the other pupils to unveil the portrait, accompanied by maids of honor. So exciting to see!
@tdaug80 — not for the challenge you gave me, but I took a cue from you and decided to put up something that touched on the challenge I gave you. The approach is a bit lazy, since the photo was one I took without any thought to artistry — purely for documentation.

How very interesting. And the handwriting on the manuscript is gorgeous.
