We left at the caravan at Cocklebiddy and spent the night at the Eyre Bird Observatory. The temperature peaked at 43 degrees and birds were really feeling the heat. The bird baths were hives of activity throughout the day. Luckily the weather cooled quickly, when the sea breeze came in, so we were able to do a couple of walks before dinner.
@judithdeacon it's a 4wd track but it was fine. You can't take vans or trailers into the observatory. People used to leave them in the bush part way along the track but the fire burnt out the cover. It costs about $95 per person to stay at the observatory, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, provided by the caretakers. You also need to take your own sheets and towels.
